Using Shortcuts While Time Tracking

After trying out several combinations of apps, I finally have a workflow to time track involving shortcuts. I am using the following apps and services while following the pomodoro tracking technique:

* Actions for Shortcuts

* Charty

* Dark Noise

* Data Jar

* Focused Work

* Toggl

I start a pomodoro session using Focused Work. This launches a shortcut that activates my device’s Work Focus, changes my system appearance to dark mode, starts playing a sound in Dark Noise, messages my family members that I am working until a certain time, launches a tracking session in toggl, and initializes storage in Data Jar. After every focus block I update the amount of time I have worked in Data Jar which in turn updates a Charty ring widget. This way I know how far along I am in my pomodoro session. Once I stop my pomodoro session, Focused Work launches another shortcut that turns off my device’s Work Focus, changes my system appearance back to light mode,, pauses the playing sound in Dark Noise, and ends my toggl session.

The primary limitation of this workflow is that I have to start and stop my tracking on a single device. Focused Work currently does not sync running sessions across devices. However, all of these apps and services are available on iOS and macOS. Looking forward to trying out some of the app blocking features of Focused Work in the future!
